It looks like a bomb went off in here. The top is half removed from the K5 because it leaks like a sieve, but it’s too damn heavy to remove without the help of 2 or 3 people, and I can’t move it outside to clean the garage for even a day because of the relentless Oregon rain. The Stude is dead in the water- the rear engine mounts are completely collapsed, which makes it impossible to shift it into reverse. Even if that weren’t the case, the rear floats are stuck and the accelerator pump is toast on the WCFB. Ethanol sucks. To top it all off, the space between the cars and the door is cram-a-lammed full of catch-all crap from an ongoing bathroom remodel. I need a good sunny weekend to get things back in order.

How’s Oppo weathering the winter? STFU to all you southern folk with your perfect, sunny weather.

My Datsun  is parked for the winter in the shop awaiting mid April when I can drive it again. It's a dark period for sure.

Well it’s been great but I think it’s somewhat clear I’m a huge fan of winter. Car wise, it’s been sitting in the garage getting driven maybe once every other weekend

It’s 50 degrees right now. That’s 50 degrees inside most of the house. My home office has a space heater and it’s quite comfortable in there, but since slipping on ice and falling down the stone stairs last week and f’ing up my back (and butt) I can’t sit. My face is still sore from where I passed out and faceplanted   into the wall after I dragged my battered carcass into the house. I’ve pretty much stayed in bed, horizontal, with two blankets and a heated mattress pad. Screw winter.

I grew up in Minnesota. There are a lot of very good reasons I don’t live there any more. Ouch! Feel better soon!!!

Haven’t driven the fintail since last year as it has rained every Sunday this year.   Wonderful.

I haven't driven the Studebaker since last spring, and that was the one time it left the garage in 2019. Life gets in the way. :/

Life isn’t a bad excuse. I don’t envy the Stude’s needs, although I understand parts availability for those is quite good. The fintail is completely roadworthy and I am reasonably sure it will start on the first turn of the key when I take it out again, but I try to keep it dry.  Dreary winters are one of the drawbacks here, but nicer climates have their own problems too.

Over a hundred years ago my ancestors migrated from Finland to the US, and instead of choosing somewhere where the weather was better than home they settled in Minnesota. WTF? At least a few had the good sense to say ‘screw that’ and they moved west, settling in Los Angeles. Eight years ago I left LA for the frozen plains of the Midwest, and while this are not as bad as they get in MN it’s still plenty cold enough for me.

In a way I wish  I was working so I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping the place warm for at least 9 hours a day, although at this point, with the minimal heating that I’m doing, I think the electricity usage would be about the same....

Real winter finally hit us in Chicago this weekend. It hadn’t really snowed since Halloween. We had a couple days in January where it was ALMOST warm enough to ride my scooter, but not quite. With the 3"of slush that then froze solid, a first ever January ride  is definitely not a happening. I did get a nice long ride in the day after Christmas though. That was pretty incredible.

The perfect Southern winter was below freezing yesterday and is again today in the Charlotte, North Carolina area , which is a shock to all of the bulb flowers like the daffodils that have come up a month early.

I know that I have it easier than Northerners, since the temp will make it just above freezing during the day, but I still don’t care to pop the hood of my car in the garage to change the filter. I will, though.

I love my extended family, and I would like to live closer to them in the northeast, and I even grew up enjoying snow, but this cold being a short-term thing is a big part of why I moved south. But I’m not crazy enough to have gone further south to where the bugs don’t get killed off once per year.

Hello, I (begrudgingly) bring you glad tidings of 26 degree weather in Georgia. Coldest week o f the year and the the only one this year so far where it won’t rain :(

No snow for us.

Spend the winter doing squats so you can get that top off yourself. On my Jeep I just get underneath with my upper back at the CG, slowly back it off then squat it down. My knees and back are in good shape so I can squat it to the ground, but you can put a table or something behind you if need be.

I used to own a ‘79 Bronco. I could easily remove the top solo. Same story for the CJ-7 I used to own. The top on this K5, though... Good Lord. It's made of granite, I swear.
